Having experienced multiple losses herself, including the passing of her beloved husband Glen in 2019 after 27.5 years of wonderfully blissful marriage, she is familiar with grief and loss. She has also fought Lyme disease and its chronic pain and health challenges since she was a child. In spite of the loss and heartache she has kept a childlike fun about her by choosing God and joy every day, glorifying our Creator no matter what. Leaning on God for wisdom, guidance and joy is a daily chosen goal.
Laurel is blessed with two Godly young adult sons, good friends, animals and a beautiful church community.
About Julia Derksen
Julia is currently a Masters student at Trinity Western University in the Marriage and Family Therapy program. She also holds a Bachelors degree in Practical Theology with a Major in Counselling from Columbia Bible College.
As a childhood cancer survivor, amputee, and follower of Christ, she believes that sometimes the circumstances of pain and confusion can lead to immense personal growth, resilience, and restoration. Therapy is a medium in which a compassionate witness walks alongside you as you journey towards healing and wholeness within yourself and your relationships.
Julia operates out of a systemic, trauma-informed, and emotionally focused perspective informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Somatic practices. At Wellspring Christian Counselling, therapy is also able to be combined with faith-integrative practices to bring healing on the spiritual, relational, and emotional levels.
Julia looks forward to creating a compassionate, sacred and safe space for you to explore your story and present circumstances in order to find hope and healing so that you can begin living with peace, joy, and purpose.
She ise an intern therapist at Wellspring Christian Counselling for the rest of the year.
